Dr Naomi Elton
Naomi came into career coaching following a successful career as a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in Cambridge. Mid-career, and keen to better-understand the psychological experience of providing health services, Naomi studied for an MSc in Occupational Psychology. She was able to apply the learning as Clinical Director in her NHS Trust. Naomi engaged with NHS commissioners, executive directors and staff to develop the quality of services during the austerity period. She earned the reputation as a clinical leader who always championed patient care and staff wellbeing. Having been consultant (and before that, a trainee) as well as a clinical and educational supervisor, Naomi understands well the nature of medical careers and their administrative processes: on-call rotas, e-portfolios, work-based assessments, ARCPs and appraisals.
Since retiring from the NHS, and training as a coach, Naomi has worked with Career Planning for Doctors and Dentists, with the Royal Medical Benevolent Fund and the London NHS Leadership Academy. She is also a systemic therapist working with health professionals for the non-profit organisation Frontline19 and in independent practice in South London with children, families and couples.
An insightful, empathic, practical and optimistic coach, Naomi receives some delightful feedback: “Naomi’s enthusiasm is contagious. She is good at creating alternatives, which helped and encouraged me to achieve my goals.” “ It is a great pleasure for me to be able to brainstorm and voice my ideas to someone who ‘gets me’ and the journey I am on.” “I was able to move on from a real crisis to identify a future career goal.”
